Tunisia online article #2

Saving energy is becoming very essential in many places such as Tunisia because of the scarcity of our fossil fuels such as oil. Their many ways to conserve energy but the main way Tunisia is planning to save energy is with a Solar Plan using solar energy. The Solar Plan in Tunisia will be about 40 projects which will finish from the period of time between 2010 through 2016. The Solar Plan will cost over two billion dollars. Although the plan will be costly, it is designed to reduce the use of conventional energy sources by 660,000 tons of oil in Tunisia. With the Solar Plan, Tunisia will reduce the country’s total energy consumption by 22 percent by 2016.
Thinking Response: I think that Tunisia is making a mistake turning to Solar Energy in order to save money and save our fossil fuels. We do need to use renewable resources to save money and our planet but I think that Solar Energy is not a resourceful way of doing it.  When you add up the money to install solar panels and the money in the Solar Plan ($2 billion), it is not worth to go through the payment and trouble for the Solar Plan because it ends up being costlier than the money saved by the fossil fuels. Also Solar Energy is really cool but is not efficient. Solar Energy is based upon the sun which you cannot rely upon always (especially at night). I just think that using solar energy will hurt Tunisia’s government and its people. I don’t think that Tunisia should follow through with the Solar Plan.
