Non-Fiction

Non-fiction
The main idea in the biography of Michael Jordan is to never give up and always try your hardest in everything you do. In the book For the Love of the Game, it explains how Jordan tried his hardest in every game and never let his fame get to his head. His determination and love for the game increased every time he was declined or something went wrong. For example, Jordan increased his intensity and determination for basketball when he didn’t make his high school basketball team. He tried harder and harder to become the top scorer for his High School team and one of the most wanted players by all colleges in USA. Also when Jordan wasn’t as respected by his teammates and coaches in the NBA, Jordan not only made a difference on the offensive side, but also on the defensive side. He made it to the Olympics and had six season MVP awards during his career. Finally, he also passed one of the greatest setbacks in his life, the murder of his father. Jordan returned from retirement and played his heart out for the death of his father. I think Michael Jordan has made such a contribution to the game of basketball that no one is capable of doing. His willpower is incomparable to anybody not only in basketball but in all sports. Jordan shows that there is no shortcut to success. He works hard to earn his place in history.
The writer shows that he understands that success only comes through hard work. He has many points in the book expressing how he feels about Jordan’s determination. I feel the same way the writer does. This book helps me show that never give up at anything, always try your hardest at anything you do, and challenge yourself to accomplish the greatest. Jordan changed the way I thought about myself and basketball. As you know that I am one of the biggest fans of basketball. Jordan explains to me that nothing can stop me from achieving the highest except myself. In For the Love of the Game, Michael shows that greatness can be earned by anyone as long as they work hard to achieve it. You are never too big or too small to try anything. Michael not only changed the way I thought about life, but for many others around the world. People around the world were crazy for Michael. The ratings show that almost every game from the 1072 games played by Michael Jordan was sold out. Michael Jordan changed the way people looked at the NBA around the world. Without Michael Jordan, the United States of America would not be the same, let alone the NBA.
For the Love of the Game reminds me of many situations. All these situations are the achievements of the greatest people known in the world. However, one that relates with Jordan the most is a movie based upon him, Like Mike. In this movie, a kid named Calvin finds MJ’s (Michael Jordan) sneakers and starts playing like you could never imagine. He is similar to Jordan because even with or without the sneakers, with or without the skill, Calvin and Jordan both play the game with love, respect, and always give a 110%. When Calvin doesn’t have the shoes, Calvin still shows the same attitude and value as Jordan when he was as old as him and works hard to achieve a good place on his team.
As you see For the Love of the Game, has a very inspiring, motivating idea. Without trying, you cannot give up, or the only one stopping you from succeeding is yourself. I have learned a lot from Michael Jordan. First when I heard about Michael Jordan, I looked up his stats to compare to the players of today such as Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. When I looked up Jordan’s stats, they were nothing comparable to what Kobe Bryant and LeBron James have accomplished overall. After reading this book, I realized that Michael Jordan’s stats weren’t amazing but just with Jordan’s presence; everyone around him became a better player. Jordan thought about winning the game as a team, not by his stats or MVP trophies. Each year for the first six years, the Bulls did not win the championship, but all Jordan saw was how much the team had improved each year. Jordan knew that soon with the hard work showed by him and his team, the future would show them success. I have learned that always keep aiming high and one day, you will succeed.
